“Sometimes life is scary and dark. That is why we must find the light.” – BMO (Adventure Time)

Emily Swayne
Mental Health Practitioner

Hi! I’m Emily (she/her) – a therapist for the mystics and misfits; the creatives and cynics; the outcasts and openminded; the artistic and awkward; the hippies and the highly sensitive! If you identify as a person who struggles to feel belonging, or doesn’t feel comfortable in a traditional mental health setting, then I may be a good fit for you!  Ready to schedule?  Contact me now to set up an appointment.

I believe that each person has inherent value and worth, and that everyone is worthy of experiencing healing and empowerment. I want to help you work towards becoming your best version of yourself, and to help you feel empowered as the author and holder of the pen in your life’s story.

When you step into my office, or enter into a teletherapy session with me, you can expect to find a safe space filled with compassion, empathy, warmth, and humor.  A space, where it is my hope and goal, that you will feel heard and seen, while collaboratively working towards healing, without the worry of judgement.  I believe everyone can benefit from therapy, and that one of the most important factors of therapy is a good client/therapist relationship. If you think we might be a good fit, reach out today.

I see clients ages 14 and up, and have special interests in working with:

  • Creatives and artists;
  • Those with polyamorous or non-monogamous relationships or identities;
  • Those deconstructing their religion/spirituality or who feel spiritually homeless;
  • People coming out of purity culture;
  • Trauma (including religious trauma);
  • Processing past childhood experiences and their impact;
  • Those who come across like they “have it all together”;
  • Depression, anxiety, and boundary setting;
  • Those in the the LGBTQIA+ communities; and,
  • Those who want to feel more connected to their inner-selves and bodies.

I believe that each person is the expert in their own story. I take a stance of curiosity. I want to learn about you for who you are, and work together on whatever it is that will be most helpful for you to live your most fulfilling and authentic life.

I am currently working towards obtaining my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, by completing my practicum/internship at Blue Box Counseling & Wellness + POW! Psychotherapy. I have experience working as a therapist intern with children and adults in outpatient private practice, and with teens in a level 4 day treatment setting.  My practicum site supervisors are Justine Mastin, M.A., LMFT, LADC, and Ashley Myhre, M.A., LMFT.

Whatever you’re facing, I would be honored to come alongside you and help you “find the light,” so to speak. I commend you for taking this step towards healing and growth, and I look forward to doing good work together!

Rates*:  Income-based sliding scale sessions, between $30.00 – $70.00.
*I am currently offering pro bono (free) services for BIPOC, front-line workers, and activists until December 2020.

Get in touch today to set up an appointment, or request a free 15 minute phone consultation to see if we will be a good fit.

In a joint venture with Blue Box Counseling and Wellness, POW! Psychotherapy offers internship/practicum opportunities for graduate students studying therapy.
